Andrew Chew has extensive experience in the educational sector. Over the last 25 years, he has held senior positions in the Ministry of Education in Singapore i.e. as Principal of Greenview Secondary school, as Cluster Superintendents for South & West Zones and as Deputy Director for Co-Curricular Activities.
Andrew is a trained counsellor and a registered member with both the Singapore Association for Counselling and Association for Psychotherapists & Counsellors Singapore. Besides his private practice as a counsellor, Andrew provides bro bono counselling services at The Helping Hand and The Grassroots' Club twice a month. Andrew also volunteers as a befriender, case officer and an academic tutor for for residents at the Singapore Boys’ Home, inmates at Changi Prison and Prison School respectively.
A firm believer in the importance of mental health, Andrew has conducted numerous mental health talks with companies and public organisations to raise awareness of mental health issues in Singapore. Andrew is also a regular speaker with FM 93.8, "A Slice of Life hour", sharing on topics such as mental housekeeping, the DNA of happiness,and keys to Living a Life of Purpose & possibility. Andrew has also prototyped an 8-week Social-emotional Learning (SEL) & Mental Resilience Programme for some inmates at the Reformatory Training Centre, Singapore Prison Service to help participants develop self and social awareness, emotional awareness and mental resilience.
An avid reader, Andrew loves to explore topics involving mind, body and spirit such as neuroplasticity, epigenetics, psychoneuroimmunology, personal effectiveness, relationship issues and mindfulness. He is also interested in cooking, trekking, travelling and tai chi.
Andrew is currently the Chairman of the SUSS Minor in Leadership Programme Advisory Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Singapore Mission School (SMS) Board & a member of New Town Primary School Advisory committee. He concurrently chairs the SMS Future Development and Human Resource Sub-committees.
